Blackbeard Full Band 2022.jpg

Their bold and riotous modern folk rock is built for late nights and big stages. Hold on to your tricorne hats and be prepared to stamp your wooden legs – Blackbeard’s Tea Party are in town.

Sea-shanties will be given a bombastic rock edge, and folk instrumentals will become late-night floor-fillers when this raucous bunch of reprobates hit the stage. They have dirt under their fingernails and a twinkle in their eyes, and you can expect fantastic musicianship, playful choreography and an unstoppable urge to move your body.

Face The West are an Electro Celtic band from the Isle of Lewis.  The band started out in August 1998 rehearsing in reclaimed Harris Tweed mill buildings.  Their first (and could have been last!) gig was at a very stormy village bonfire just outside Stornoway.

The members in Face The West have paid their dues and have a lifetime's worth of gigging experience.  This led them to be nominated for LIVE ACT OF THE YEAR at the 2009 Scottish Trad Awards.  They have been performing at some of Scotland’s most prestigious festivals, including the Hebridean Celtic Festival, Tiree Music Festival, Barrafest, Orkney Folk Festival and multiple appearances at Glasgow’s winter festival in George Square to name a few.  Face The West have also performed as far from home as Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

After 5 years' hiatus, the band are back and are recording a new album, the best kept secret in modern celtic music.  Face The West’s apparent enthusiasm and infectious spirit leaves each and every member of the audience buzzing.  Not just a band but an intense experience.

access to art school where he got a BA (Hons) in

Graphic Design / Illustration before returning to his

first passion of music.

COLE & WARD

COLE WARD 3.png

Mark Cole's powerful, passionate vocals and honest uncluttered slide and rhythm guitar (plus a little mandolin and other found objects) make it hard not to enjoy his musical creations. He has played with and supported many top blues and roots artists including Pinetop Perkins, Dr. Feelgood, Richard Thompson and Alvin Lee.

Cole's songwriting is instantly recognisable: quirky, funny and yet capable of poignance too. Combined with Liam Ward's emotionally charged harmonica and his own songwriting talents, a set from these two takes a "pass-the-parcel" approach with each given a chance to share their own styles. If you ask for an encore, you might even hear a harp duel between the two of them!

Ferocious Dog - Up To Date Line Up_edited.jpg

Ferocious Dog are a six-piece band who deal in a vibrant vein of Celtic-folk infused punk rock, comfortably slotting in between Billy Bragg and The Levellers. However, like The Levellers and New Model Army (also listed as an influence), Ferocious Dog have a broad spectrum of influences, tied together by the band’s left-leaning convictions and a shared desire to communicate through music.

The band has headlined tours of the UK and Europe, performed in Kenya and Dubai, festivals such as Bearded Theory, Alchemy, Deerstock, Farmer Phil's Festival, Splendour, Lowlands (Netherlands), Glastonbury Festival and Beautiful Days among many others.

His highly individual music takes him to some of the top venues and festivals in the UK, attracting acclaim wherever he goes.

Mark’s live shows are well-known not only for the memorable melodic songs but also for his introductions to them, delivered in a manner often described as ‘wry’ and ‘dry’. The Foreign Locals

F locals.jpeg

This duo are the epitome of musical alchemists, connecting with their audience as a conductor would an orchestra, or a captain and his loyal crew. An old soul on young shoulders, blessed with the 'spirit of the blues' and a voice to match, Joe is a Jack Sparrow among us, a whirlwind of creative energy, and blue is one colour you certainly won't be feeling after a personal interaction as part of his crew.

Pirate Joe, aka Joseph Rio Santana Green, entered the stage followed by his two large cartoon-headed band members, in a self-confessed stunt attempt to realign his own head size, following his emergence from the musical circles of Falmouth, to one of the biggest stage presences based in Norfolk for many a year.

THE DRYSTONES

"Very, very bold, inventive, intuitive ... I really like the sound of them"

Celtic Heartbeats, BBC Wales

"The Drystones technical prowess and stylistic awareness speak for themselves"  Songlines Magazine

"With energy pouring out of those instruments.."

EFDSS Classic Folk

"If The Drystones are the future of folk/dance music, it is in very safe hands. Get up on your feet and dance the night away"

Peter Shaw, Folk Radio UK

"My recommendation of the day" - Steve Lamacq BBC Radio 2 live from Glastonbury 2013

The Drystones play a folktronica fusion that sees Alex Garden and Ford Collier’s trad instruments bent out of shape by Evan Carson’s pounding electro-percussion. From humble beginnings busking on the streets of Somerset, they have come to the fore of a generation of folk acts bringing a new energy to timeless traditions.

In 2021, they released Vulpus: an album that embraces a blend of trad folk with electronic music - the fire and energy of their fiddle and guitar integrated into a distinctly modern groove. The same year saw the founding duo of Alex and Ford team up with 'percussion maestro' (prog magazine) Evan Carson, and launch an Arts Council funded mission to bring younger audiences to folk.

Having played Glastonbury Festival and with a BBC Radio 2 Folk Award nomination under their belts, The Drystones know how to please a crowd. Whether you’re more at home in a crusty tavern or a sweaty disco, a Drystones show is the place for you.

River Roots

1 River Roots Jumping Beach.jpg

Free spirited singer-songwriters River Roots are a good-vibe, acoustic folk-roots duo from the UK. A powerful symbiosis of soulful male/female harmonies that will take you out of your head and straight into your heart. River Roots have a playful uplifting vibe that will nourish your soul as they seamlessly weave between soothing melodies to funky upbeat feel-good songs. Their music is majorly influenced by a nomadic lifestyle and the profound experiences and connections made on their travels.

“Our mission is to spark inspiration and ignite passion in
people to transform their reality. Music is powerful and true magic, we want to help spread it to the world.”

“What voices River Roots have! Simple and frankly
stunning. Nice job”
- David White, BBC Introducing.

“Really nice vocal harmonies, light hearted energy and
bright imagery that puts a smile on my face.”

- Ear To The Ground Music.

Hot Stove 3

Playing original songs on acoustic instruments, the band entwines wonderful harmonies and incredible harmonica. This unique sound weaves joyous, thought-provoking patterns, taking you on a journey through life’s twists, turns, ups and downs.

Along with the wealth of original material, The Hot Stove 3, throw in the odd, surprising cover and a sprinkling of jigs and reels.

Chad Mason

Chad Mason at Jurnets feb 2019 pic by ri.webp

Building a crowd in Norwich by both playing and hosting acoustic music (including his own night in the medieval environs of Jurnets Bar) he has cleared his own path to perform his own songs and host others from around the UK and beyond. He drew friends far and wide into the creation of his debut album The Meandering Mind of Chad Mason in 2011 – evoking  comparisons to early Fairport and Ennio Morricone. Always striking a balance between recording and gigging, he maintains a stripped-back approach live – engaging the room not only with his guitar, voice and harmonica but also his disarmingly witty patter, reasoning that pub and folk-club audiences don’t warm to shoegazers. The bantering has led to a side hustle as a popular music festival compere – Folk in a Field (voted East Anglian Festival of the Year) has installed him as the main stage compere of three years standing.
