About Folk in a Field

Taking place in the heart of Norfolk near to the village of West Acre, the "Folk in a Field Festival" brings together a diverse mix of performers from the acoustic, folk and roots music scene.
The rural setting of the festival, surrounded by woodland, contributes to a real “get away from it all” vibe in which to enjoy some great music, take in interesting craft demonstrations or sample local food.

An independent family friendly festival
Folk in a Field is a truly independent festival organised by a husband and wife team along side their full time jobs. Luke and Jade have run the event since 2015, producing an uplifting, family friendly weekend summer festival in a beautiful setting.

Folk in a Field is a passion and now a way of life for Luke and Jade which takes up most evenings after work and many many late night and weekends.

The inspiration for the event came from the site itself in 2015 when Luke (a woodman on West Acre Estate) helped build some of the structures. 2015 started with approximately 350 people over two days and has grown to 1700-2000 people over 4 days.

The festival's sole purpose is to put on a show for all ages. Folk in a Field only uses local suppliers where possible. This ties in with the community aspect for the event as it puts money directly back to local small businesses and the self employed.

How has it changed since 2015
Folk in a Field has had to adapt and tweak over the years to accommodate more people and offer more stages and activities. In 2015, 100% of the music was folk however over the years it was apparent that folk alone wasn't enough. This was because of the rising costs of putting on events and people were reluctant to come because "i don't like folk" (despite the majority of those were converted by the end of the event) meant the event needed more people to attend to cover costs. Now there is a mix of music across many genres, but remember technically reggae is folk, blues is folk just not traditional English, Irish or Scottish folk which many associate with the word.

As time as passed more and more folk fusion or folk crossover bands have emerged bringing folk back to the forefront of the music scene.

Why are the prices what they are?
Folk in a Field festival is essentially like a farm shop or an independent freehold pub. Folk in a Field is not funded by a large corporate conglomerate and cannot spread costs across multiple events or vast numbers of attendees. The festival is kept small so you are not herded around like cattle and the event is more intimate and relaxed.
Because there are no large sponsor(s) paying large sums of money, growth is slower than some events meaning if FIAF had another 1000 people yes prices would be less, but would you want to share that site with 1000 more people?
Plus unlike some (not all) festivals we do not charge absolutely everything such as:
-
a camping pitch plus camping passes per person
-
parking
-
bringing a dog
-
workshops
-
bringing a child 12 years old or younger
-
charging your phone etc

There is a payment plan available and if purchased at the cheapest Early Early Bird price of £140 it would be approximately £13.23 per month for 11 months.
